Hello

My name is King’ori Maina, and here is where I share my study of the Bible, along with the tools I build to help with it. I hope they help you with yours.

I love God, and I love His Word, and the way I’ve come to study it is to let it set the agendaa. Rather than coming to a passage with a topic I’d like it to speak to, I try to follow it where it leads and ask what it’s actually sayingb. Reading like that has taken me into parts of Scripture I rarely heard taught on a Sunday, and it has surprised me more often than I expectedc. Each surprise sent me back to the text, and the more I learnt, the more convinced I became that the Bible is trued.

Somewhere along the way, being convinced became wanting to share ite. So I started writing it down, first as a newsletter. It was a good start, but I’m a software developer, and I kept noticing what I couldn’t do on someone else’s platform. With a place of my own, the Bible’s text could be structured so it can be searched and explored, study could have tools built around it and every page could be shaped to fit what it holds. ThyWord is what came of bringing those two loves together.

Underneath all of it is a question I keep coming back to. If I die, does everything I’ve learnt from Scripture die with me, or can I pass it on to my children?f I want to pass it on as well as I can, and once I knew I wanted to share it with them, it was a short step to sharing it with anyone who wants to read alongg. If you’ve read this far, that’s probably you.

And I can’t keep it to myself. I don’t want to light a lamp only to hide it under a basketh, because this light isn’t mine to keep. People’s souls are at stake, and the gospel is the power of God to savei. It rescues people and transforms their lives.

Not all of us will preach from a pulpit, but each of us can use what we’ve been given. I want to be obedient and share the gospel, and this is how I can. And one day, I hope to hear Jesus say, “Well done, good and faithful servant!”j

For now, that means a place to read the Bible, and I want reading here to be a pleasure in itself. From there, I want to help you learn to read it for yourselfk: to observe what a passage says, interpret what it means and apply it to your life. Studies on different topics will follow as I write them, and tools too, some of which I haven’t thought of yet.

If something here helps you, or you spot something I’ve got wrong, I’d be glad to hear from you at [email protected].
